Baby of Lakshmi
- B/o Lakshmi was born in August 2011. Her parents consulted an eye clinic at Banshankari and was diagnosed retinoblastoma in the right eye, and they are been reffered to Narayana Nethralaya for further treatment.
- Her parents are financially not well off, father is working as electrician and mother is house wife and require support for the treatment.
- Her right eye was affected and had to be removed in order to prevent spread of the cancer and increase the chance of life for the child.
Latha
18 month old Latha's curiosity and her infectious smile is the first thing you will notice when you see her. On a closer look you realize that the little girl has lost one eye. She underwent treatment for retinoblastoma, a childhood cancer of the eye.
Irfan
- Irfan's eye cancer was detected late. His left eye could not be saved. The two year old undergoes regular chemotherapy at Narayana Nethralaya for his right eye. Irfans mother Asma Banu says Ifran was born healthy and that they were unaware of the cancer that was growing from within until he was a year old. She noticed redness and swelling in his eye and it was constantly watering.
- She took him to Narayana Nethralaya where it was confirmed that he had retinoblastoma. Providing for Irfan and his brother's basic necessities are a big challenge for Asma and her husband, let alone treatment for the cancer.
- Asma says "So what if my child has lost one eye. My child will still go to school and study"
- There was nobody to help them. When her husband is away at work she has to stay at home to take care of Irfan. Thanks to his fighting spirit and timely treatment, Irfan is responding well. He is not fully cancer free yet. Let us help him win this battle against retinoblastoma.
Raviteja
- Raviteja's eye cancer was detected early by his parents when the noticed a white reflex in one eye.
- On coming to Narayana Nethralaya, it was found that he had cancer in both eyes.
- Prompt action of the parents ensured that the treatment could be started early enough to potentially save both the eyes.
- He has undergone multipleis chemo sessions and is taking treatment well.
- He is 7 months old and is healthy.
- His parents have been regular to the checkups and are eager to see Raviteja grow up like other healthy kids and want to put him in school as well.
- 6 cycles of chemo, followed by focal therapy is required to try and ensure that the cancer is completely treated.
Baby of Renuka
- When the child was 2 months old, the parents noticed watering in his eyes and took him to a doctor who refered him to Narayana Nethralaya.
- The parents were ready to have the eye removed as it cost more than treatment, but with the assistance of Iksha Foundation, we have been able to continue treatment on the child.
Hemanth
- Hemanth's eye cancer was detected by his parents when they noticed that he was not able to see clearly and was running into things.
- They took him to a local hospital, where a doctor confirmed that he would have to be tested in a larger hospital.
- On coming to Narayana Nethralaya, it was found that he had cancer in one eye and the eye had to be removed and a prosthetic put in its place.
- Hemanth has undergone 5 chemo sessions and is due for his 6th soon.
- He is 2 years old and has a healthy sister who is 5 and goes to school.
- His parents have been very regular to the checkups and are greatful to the doctors for taking such good care of him.
Prashanth
- Prashanth was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma in 2006 and his right eye had to be removed.
- He underwent chemotherapy and was recovering well.
- He had a reoccurance and is undergoing chemotherapy to try and save his functioning eye now.
- His father has a small farm and needs full financial support for the treatment of Prashanth.
- As this case is complicated, we would need multiple laser therapy sessions, a CT scan, bone marrow examinations. This adds up to around INR 300,000.
Rakshith
- Rakshith was born in May 2011 in Mangalore.
- When he was a month and a half old, his parents saw a difference between his eyes and met a doctor.
- The doctor suggested they visit a specialized hospital in Bangalore and that is when we were introduced to Rakshith.
- Rakshith has an older brother who is in the 2nd standard and has no medical problems.
- Rakshith's father works as a truck driver and his mother is a home maker and they need full financial support for his treatment (approximately INR 150,000 over a duration of 1 year).
