Ruthvika was around one year old when her parents noticed a white reflection in her eye. They consulted doctors at a local hospital in Raichur, where she was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma and referred to Narayana Nethralaya for further treatment. She underwent left eye surgery, followed by chemotherapy.

Her parents depend on daily-wage agricultural work for their livelihood, and the family has struggled to afford the cost of her treatment.

Ruthvika is now 2 years and 4 months old and has shown significant improvement following chemotherapy. She has completed her fifth chemotherapy cycle and is scheduled for a follow-up examination before her sixth cycle. She is also undergoing assessment for a customised prosthetic eye for her left eye. After completing the sixth chemotherapy cycle, doctors will determine the next course of treatment.
